Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) was a Scottish novelist, poet, essayist and travel writer. He spent the winter of 1887-88 at the Baker Cottage in Saranac Lake. The property is now operated by the Stevenson Society of America as the Robert Louis Stevenson Memorial Cottage & Museum. He is the author of such celebrated works as “Treasure island,” “Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,” and “The Master of Ballantrae.”
Garry Trudeau was born in New York City in 1948, and was raised in Saranac Lake, N.Y. He attended Yale University, where he received his B.A. and an M.F.A. in graphic design. In 1970, he launched the Doonesbury cartoon, which now appears in nearly 1400 daily and Sunday newspaper clients in the U.S. and abroad.
