Shel Damsky passes away at age 83

Sheldon W. Damsky, 83, husband of Dorice (Teper) Nelson-Damsky, retired attorney and author, died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2010 at Albany Medical Center.

A native of Utica, he served in the U.S. Navy before graduating from Colgate University and Cornell Law School. His law career was devoted to zoning and land-use law.

While living in Saranac Lake, he wrote two well-received novels: "Saranac Lake Requiem" and "Saranac Lake Revisited." After moving to Cambridge in 2004, he wrote more three books. The last, "Death on Appeal," was published in July.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, three children, three stepsons and five grandchildren.

At Sheldon's request, there are no services. He requested memorial donations be made to your local library.
